Spring in MIchigan???

A little out of order, but oh well.

The middle of March we started a meandering trip north on the return to Michigan. We had a few serendipity experiences along the way. When we left Port Aransas we decided to spot in Shiner Texas and tour the Shiner Brewery. A fun tour and beer sampling.
We spent 10 days with Andy, Kerry and the girls,
learned the sex of the new baby, painted the nursery, made blankets, aprons and tutus.

Then headed to Kentucky and a tour of Mammoth Caves. On the way we stayed overnight in Texarkana. That night there was a news report about 2 escape convicts from Louisiana who were heading toward Arkansas. We didn't think much about it until we reached Jackson Tennessee the next day and began to see state police lining the overpasses. When we tuned into the radio, they said there was a manhunt for the escapees right where we were!! Luckily they were caught.
Our visit to Mammoth Caves was interesting and not what I had expected. The caves are dry and very large so none of the damp, cramped feeling. Before we left we had to have a piece of Kentucky Derby pie! Almost as good as mine!
We stopped in Defiance and had lunch with Roger's brother Alan and wife Laurie, then spent the night with Dan and family.
We arrived home, unpacked and went to Kate's for dinner. After dinner poor Samuel got sick and it was down hill from there. Friday we babysat ans he continued to get worse. Saturday Roger went to paint Dan's nursery and Kate, Mike and Samuel came to Freeland to shower as their hot water heater had failed. By then Kate was sick too.
Monday Samuel was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and RSV, Kate had it too and I was starting to feel rotten.

To top it off that Wednesday it snowed 6 inches! Not the best of times for any of us.

Things improved and we began to settle back into a routine in Freeland. Roger continued the work in the basement that he had started before we left and I picked up a yoga class, my knitting group and quilting.
Now we just hope spring really arrives soon as it is almost Easter (April 24) and gardening time is close at hand!
