Moving in part 3
Not in the house a week, and we needed to drive to Texas to gather the rest of our things and file our taxes (all the paper work was at our son's). So I went on line to place a hold on the mail....easy way to accomplish that....only to find the postal service did not HAVE such an address listed! Mind you the mail person had been delivering mail for a week. So we stopped by the PO on our way out of town and placed the hold, hoping the message got to the right person. Thank goodness for small towns, where "everybody knows your name!"
Drove to Texas and had a great visit with family and the "grandgirls" as well as a couple of old friends. Loaded the van once again with stuff, including a riding lawn mower (what can you say about a 9 year old 150,000 mile van that can handle that?) and off we went. (what happened to the "downsized, simple life"?). Wish I had a picture of that!

So the next thing we had to do was buy appliances! A lot has changed in the appliance world in 20 years. So off we went, found some bargains (if you can call spending that much at one time a bargain!) and set up delivery. When the refrigerator arrived, the driver took one look at the space and said "it ain't gonna fit". Never even unpacked it, left it on the truck and returned to the warehouse. Strike 2! Off to the store again to pick another model. Found a bargain almost as good that would fit and headed "home".
Meanwhile when we went to set up delivery on the washer/dryer pair we had being held, they disappeared from the computer screen at the store. Mind you we could SEE them and it took 6-7 store employees including the tech expert to "find them" and set a delivery date. Just as they finished, along came the driver who, of course, knew how to do the whole transaction. Coulda save an hour of EVERYONE"S time!

Moving in part 1
So, we changed the name of our blog to reflect our continued adventures and I guess I should tell you about some of the adventures of relocating to Michigan when your stuff is in storage in Indiana, your mail and tax papers are in Texas and you are visiting in Florida!
When we put an offer on the house, we were about to leave for a visit to FL for 3 weeks. We arranged the closing for March 1st. On our return to MI Feb. 25 we called the storage company to arrange delivery of the furniture only to get a message that the number was "no longer in service"! So we called the company where we had been sending the checks and got the same message! Started wondering if they had sold our possessions! Maybe good, maybe not...all our family heirlooms...all new furnishing. So we hunted down the parent company number and finally got a real person. Unfortunately she was not sure where our "stuff" was, but promised to call back after she looked into it. And "didn't you get a letter?" Well, no we hadn't. "You should have".
Next we called our daughter to have her check the stack of mail our son had sent to MI. Sure enough she found a letter from the moving company telling us the company had closed and sent all our things to Defiance Ohio and gave a number to call. Mind you the letter was dated Feb 5th, 2010. Not exactly a long time. We had sent the check for January and February to the billing company (remember they were closed too). About this time we were starting to get a bit anxious.
So we called the new storage company number and as soon as I mentioned my name the person on the other end said, "Oh, your name has been floating around the office all day. I will have my boss call you later"! To sum it all up, they found our things and arranged the delivery for Wednesday after closing. Cross your fingers.....
